The Brutalist Sanctuary:

This design explores the principles of modern Brutalism by utilizing a series of interlocking geometric volumes composed of raw, exposed concrete. The project focuses on the concept of “enclosure,” where high boundary walls and solid massing protect a serene, private interior world from the surrounding urban environment.

Key Design Features:

Monolithic Materiality: The primary facade is composed of poured-in-place concrete panels with visible tie-rod holes, celebrating the industrial honesty of the material.

Geometric Light Filtration: Instead of traditional windows, the project uses custom-perforated metal screens with intricate geometric patterns that act as architectural veils.

Integrated Ground-Level Pool: The heart of the home features a ground-floor swimming pool that sits flush with the primary living zones. Large glass sliding doors erase the boundary between the interior social spaces and the water’s edge at this main level.

Subterranean Sunken Courtyard: A separate basement-level sunken area provides a secluded outdoor space below the main grade, offering a distinct sense of vertical separation and cool, shaded tranquility.

Architectural Procession: The design utilizes tiered levels and stone-clad staircases to navigate the site, creating a transition from the street down toward the private basement sanctuary and the primary residential levels.

Minimalist Landscaping: The vegetation is curated to be sculptural—featuring palm trees and desert-hardy plants—to soften the hard edges of the concrete without distracting from the building’s rigorous lines.

Project Impact

The Brutalist Sanctuary redefines luxury as a quiet, tactile experience. By focusing on the weight of the masonry and the purity of the light, the project offers a fortress-like refuge that remains deeply connected to the sky and the elements through its layered, multi-level organization.
